Lime Sherbert Ingredients |
Lime Sherbert Ingredients
I Cup sugar
1 Package
unflavored Knox gelatine
2 Cups milk
2/3 Cup fresh
lime juice (6-7 limes)
1 Teaspoon
grated lime peel
3 Cups half and
half
10 drops green
food coloring |
|

Sugar And Gelatine |
First Step: Sugar and Gelatine
Mix together
in the mixing bowl:
1 Cup sugar
1 Package
unflavored Knox gelatine
Why Gelatine? It sounds a little odd that sherbert would have
gelatine in it, but it keeps the sherbert together. Without it you would
have an odd slimy milkshake. |
|

Milk |
Second Step: Heating Milk
Turn your stove
on to medium heat and heat the 2 cups of milk until almost to a boil. It is
important to constantly stir the milk otherwise it could burn on the
bottom. Then add it to your mixture of gelatine and sugar. Stir this until
the sugar and gelatine are fully dissolved. |
|

Lime Peel |
Third Step: Lime Peal
Using a cheese
grader, or something like the utensil shown to the left make one teaspoon of
grated lime peel. This will add more flavor to the sherbert than you think.
|
|

Squeezing Limes |
Fourth Step: Squeezing Limes
Squeeze 2/3 of
a cup of lime juice. Now there are two ways you can do this; like the pros by
cutting the lime in half and squeezing it, or the less professional way that
I suggest, using a pair of pliers. I think you get more juice if you use
pliers, but this is your chose. Either way don't worry about the pulp it
will be fine if you have a little in the juice. |
|

Adding Lime |
Fifth Step: Adding Lime
Now mix lime
juice and peel into your mixture:
2/3 Cup fresh
lime juice
1 Teaspoon lime
peel (from third step) |
|

Sherbert |
Sixth Step: Adding Cream and Color
Add into the
final mixture:
3 Cups half and
half
10 drops of
green food coloring
If your ice
cream mixture is not at least as cold as room temperature put it in the
refrigerator until it cools. If your sherbert mixture is hot when it goes
into the ice cream maker it will not freeze. |
|

Lime Sherbert |
Seventh Step: Freezing
Put the
sherbert into the ice cream maker and turn it on. It should take around 20
minutes for it to freeze. If it still does not freeze hard enough to your liking
then put it in a container and let it spend a few hours in the freezer to
finish freezing. Then Enjoy! |
